'The Umbrella Academy' Season 3: Everything to Remember Before Watching

On Wednesday, Netflix will premiere the third season of everyone's favorite dysfunctional adoptive superhero family. The Umbrella Academy is the ultimate polished bundle of time travel antics, sarcastic father figures, and various end-of-the-world situations. It is based on the comic book series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá.

There are important details from season 2 that you should should review before watching the most recent season. There is hope for a certain pair to get back together, as the season finished on a shocking cliffhanger.

Again, Vanya brings about doomsday.

The Hargreeves siblings have been tasked with stopping Doomsday, often known as the apocalypse, ever since season 1. Vanya (Elliot Page) is in the epicenter of this planet-destroying catastrophe, just like in season 1.

In the season 1 finale, Vanya unleashes energy that causes the moon's fragments to fall to Earth and bring about the end of the planet. With the help of Five's (Aiden Gallagher) abilities, the siblings use time travel in season 2 to avert this situation. But they eventually find themselves in Dallas, 1963, just after President John F. Kennedy was killed.

Again, this results in Doomsday. Using the Infinite Switchboard of the Commission, a covert organization that monitors the world's established timeline, Diego (David Castaeda) is able to look into the future and observe an FBI building detonate as JFK's car passes by during his parade. The US administration suspects the Russians are responsible for the explosion, but a series of events follow in which JFK manages to avoid being assassinated. They react, and a nuclear conflict, or another Doomsday, breaks out.

It turns out that Vanya is to blame for the explosion, as you could have predicted. The FBI tortures Vanya because they think she is a Russian agent. Her powers are activated by this, and she almost explodes. Ben (Justin H. Min) enters her head just in time to persuade her that the siblings love her. She exerts control of her abilities and stops the blast. After JFK is killed, history returns to its "proper" chronology. Having accomplished his ultimate goal of protecting Vanya, ghost Ben regrettably is no longer able to rejoin the living world and instead disintegrates.
